Monitor Folders with watchDirectory

Watch Directory GUI, monitor directory. Start any command when folder contents change.

  1. Major improvements in ease of use
watchDirectory version 4 has a new GUI, the watchDirectory Control Center, to configure your tasks. The Control Center gives you a quick and complete overview of all tasks you have created, allowing you to Create, Change, Start, Stop and Pause tasks. Have a look at how the watchDirectory Control Center works.
  2. New plugin based architecture
Previous versions of watchDirectory only worked with batch file scripts. This is still possible with version 4, but the new version runs "plugins" (compiled DLL files) to react to file system activity. These plugins have the following advantages:
    • They run a lot faster than .bat files as they are real executables.
    • They can be configured using normal Windows - no need to change script files.
    • These plugins allow for more advanced functionality.
At this moment there are 9 plugins 10 plugins 11 plugins available but more will be released in the future (free of charge). These plugins will not work with previous versions of watchDirectory.
  3. Includes a scheduler (Professional Edition only)
The scheduler allows you to delay handling of events and/or ignore events during certain times. Find out more about the scheduler.
  4. Includes the Task History viewer, that shows you everything that happened.

A Few More Reasons...

  • The default and polling monitoring methods have been redesinged so they consume less memory and work faster. This allows them to be used on larger directory trees.
  • When you run watchDirectory as a Windows Service (professional edition only), it runs as a *real* service. Version 3 relied upon a separate program (watchDirectoryService) to start watchDirectory as a service.
  • watchDirectory can optionally scan the directory tree for missed events when starting up.
  • If you use the .bat file plugin, all output of those scripts can be captured to files.
