Title: Monitor FTP site?
Post by White94Cobra on Oct 26th, 2004 at 12:55am
Good morning... we have a Linux box where the only access we get is via FTP (we don't own the machine).  Is it possible to monitor an FTP site?  I tried adding a Network shortcut but it ended up monitoring the actual Windows directory where the shortcut resides.  Thank you.

Hello,

Shortcuts won't help here. The FTP site needs to  be accessible as a drive. There is one tool I know of that has this functionality: webdrive (http://www.webdrive.com/index.php?pg=./products/webdrive/index).

When you 'map' an FTP site to a Windows drive letter, you can then let watchDirectory monitor folders on it. However, you will need to use the Polling monitoring method, as the webdrive software doesn't support all notifications that watchDirectory uses with the other methods.
