Title: e-mail folder contents?
Post by templinc on Feb 15th, 2005 at 3:22am
i'm looking to use this software, but what i need it to do (and have not found on previous threads wheter it's built in or not) is to email the contents of the folder and then empty the folder.  i'm not a programmer,  so i don't know if i would be able to modify the code correctly.  is this possible without to much trouble?

Hello Allen,

I am not sure what you mean... Do you want to email all new files in that are created inside a folder? Is it perhaps a folder that has been created or is it an existing folder.

It is possible, but the trick is to know *when* to email. watchDirectory reacts to filesystem changes, so it would normaly react to each individual file (so, 1 email per file). I guess you want 1 email when the *last* file is created....

Are those files created in rapid succession (another program creates a bunch of them) or maybe copied by you?
In that case you could use a technique with the QUIET event (see http://www.watchdirectory.net/watchDir/help/quiet.html#group).

If you give me some more details, I'll be happy to create the script for you.

I wasn't sure from reading this post--Can this software automatically email files placed into a folder using one of the included scripts, 1 file for each email?

Yes, that is the default functionality of the wdAutoEmail.bat sample (look for it inside the c:\program files\gdp software\watchDirectory\samples folder).
The original poster wanted to send an email after several files were created.
