Title: FTP Upload feature request
Post by Raj on Sep 1st, 2005 at 8:46pm
Hi Gert,
I just downloaded the new version and was really excited to use the FTP upload feature over sftp however I hoped that it would handle New/Rename/Delete Directories and Rename/Delete Files but it doesn't seem to. By this I mean that if I delete a file or directory on the watchdirectory computer I want it to do the same on the (s)ftp server that it uploads to, so that both machines are synch'd. Is this something that has been requested? Would this be a major change to how it is already works?
Thanks,
Raj

A "complete synch" option is planned for a future version of the FTP plugin. As you can imagine, implementing more/new features requires more time to develop.

For the initial release of WD4, it was decided to implement "the bare minimum" for each plugin, and only extend functionality when enough demand justifies the effort.

You can expect a more "feature rich" version of the FTP plugin later this year.

Thanks,
Version 4 seems like a pretty major overhaul, the bare minimum for the plugins is understandable. Keep up the great work.

I have a Problem testing the FTP Upload feature.

i have a BAT file that creates a file in the monitored directory by the program, the idea is to the watch directory to upload the created file to a specific FTP server. it suppose to run as a service.

The task history recorded the attempt to upload the file but it says the file %filename% do no exists anymore, event removed.

The file exists in the folder.

How can I Fix this problem?

by the way i Love the program.

Hello Flavio,

Can you try again with "write debug messages" enabled (on the "other settings" page)? After an unsuccesful upload, look in the Task History (make sure to enable debug messages there by clicking the "D" button). Maybe that will give you some more info. If that doesn't help

email me (please ZIP it):

<task directory>\<yourtaskname>.config
<task directory>\<yourtaskname>\history.db

<task directory>: press CTRL+9 inside the watchDirectory Control Center to explore this directory
<yourtaskname>: the name of your task

Hi,

Currently, the upload plugin supports uploading new and changed files, and removing deleted files from the FTP site. What option are you missing?
If you are thinking about downloading changes, that is not possible with watchDirectory. This will be implemented in a new program (watchFTP) we are considering.
