Title: How to put User who triggered event in email
Post by fuzuku on Dec 28th, 2005 at 10:27pm
I am having an email sent when a directory is created, moved deleted, etc. I would like , if possible, for the message to say what user did the action. Is there a variable for this?
Is there a list for additional variables? Where? Thanks!

Hi,

The email plugin does not have an option to include the username. Besides the variables listed at the bottom of this page it can also use the variables listed here.

If you really need to have the username, you should use the auditing plugin instead.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I guess my future feature request would be to have the auditing function integrated with the email function so this feature would be easy to configure. I bet that many users would find this feature very helpful in maintaining the intergity of directories on a file server that lots of users have high level access to.
For instance. I have 6 department managers, each responsible for maintaining their own departmental directories on the file server. I have WatchDirectory configured to notify them when a change is made in their files.  If the email provided a link to open a view of the change in Windows explorer, and if they know who made the change. they could quickly examine the change and go directly to the user who made the change if training was necessary. Thanks!

The auditing plugin will undergo "heavy surgery" for the next release (probably February 2006). Among other things it will support CSV output (so you can easily import into excel).
I will see if I can also integrate the email functionality from the email plugin into it. The other way around (having the user-id available for the email plugin) will not happen, as that will add a significant overhead to the email plugin that most customers won't need.
