Title: Can't get "Monitor the Directory Size" to delete.
Post by Johnf on Mar 8th, 2007 at 5:19pm
hi,
I have 3 tasks set up.
1. Copies images coming from a camera (into a folder called DropFolder), renames it and drops it into a folder called C:\CurrentImages
2. Monitors CurrentImages. If the number of files goes above 30 it moves the oldest file to a folder called C:\OldImages
3. Monitors OldImages. If the number of files goes above 400 it should delete the oldest file.

The first 2 work fine but the last only works when I run it first but doesn't work after that. I've tried moving the images to a fourth folder to see if the task was doing anything but it doesn't seem to be. I'm confused because the set up mostly is the same task 2.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Hello John,

The 2nd task moves the file, which is implemented as a rename in Windows. If you use the "Fast" monitoring method for task 3, it will trigger a rename event (FILEREN) for this. The plugin you use for task 3 (I guess that will be the "monitr directory size" plugin) only responds to "new file" events.
The current version of WD (released a few days ago - free upgrade for 4.x customers) can automatically "translate" a rename event to a "delete" (for the old filename) and "new file" (name after the rename) event, so it should work with that.
Alternatively, you can switch the monitoring method to "Polling" or "Default".

Hi Gert,

Thanks for the quick response. That all makes sense and I've downloaded version 4.2.0 but I've tried each of those suggestions and it still isn't moving the files except when I start the task.

Are there any files or settings I can provide to help figure this out?

Thanks in advance,
John

John,

Can you send me your "task 3" settings to the email address in my signature (please ZIP it):

<task directory>\<yourtaskname>.config
<task directory>\<yourtaskname>\history.db

<task directory>: press CTRL+9 inside the watchDirectory Control Center to explore this directory
<yourtaskname>: the name of your task

so I can have a look?

The new 4.2.1 beta 3 (see http://www.watchdirectory.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1173257258 ) has fixed this issue.

When more than 1 task used the Folder Size plugin, some of these tasks would fail to work.
