Title: MultipleEmail Notifications
Post by WWDLLC on Aug 10th, 2007 at 5:56pm
Twice now we've gotten multiple email notifications for the same file (Which has only come once via FTP).

The first time it was hundreds. This time it was only about 12.

Any idea what happened?  There is nothing in the logs to indicate an error.

Hi,

FTP servers often write files in this fashion:

create file
write a bit
close file (1)
open file
write some more
close file (2)
....
open file
write some more
close file (2)

For large files, this can happen quite often. WatchDirectory will fire a "new file detected" event at point (1) and later on a "changed file detected" at points (2).
To prevent this from happening, you should set "delay starting task" (on the "other settings" window) to a high enough value to overlap multiple file-changes, I think 10 seconds should be fine.
On the same window, set the option "wait for files..." to "until their size doesn't change" or "both methods". WatchDirectory will reset the delay period (10 seconds) everytime it detects the file has changed.

Hope this helps,
Gert

I already had 'both' selected.  I've changed the wait parameter to 30 seconds.

It generally is a small file, in this case a text file containing the word "Empty".

I'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the quick response!
