Title: Service shutdown automatically
Post by bkruger on Aug 24th, 2007 at 5:47pm
On our ftp watch program we had a directory that the permissions were not setup up correctly on. FTP Watch would display the following error then turn it's service off. This was after about 4 or 5 tries of trying to view that directory.

DMS - Traversing directory \\xx.xx.xx.xx\directory\folder produced this error: Error Code: 5
Description: Access is denied.

Init for monitor fails, will retry after 600 seconds

We've had this too a few times.  Not so much of an issue when not running as a service but caused us a lot of problems last night - I was up till gone 1am trying to get files into our workflow because of this.

One thing I have done is to have a batch file with a simple "net start <wd.taskname>" and then have the service Restart on failure twice, and the 3rd time run this batch file that starts an identical service pointing at a 2nd mirror ftp server.  Don't know if it works or not - didn't last night.  The 2nd service has an opposite batch file that starts the first wd service on failure to restart.

Great to see v 4.2.3 out - the renaming plugin will be a really useful addon here.

Not much that WD can do in this case, but abort.

Sorry for that. But this should have come up when you first configured and run the task, I think.

net start <wd.taskname>

If you take a close look in "Services" on your control-panel, you will see the actual name of the service is "watchDirectory:taskname", so the "net start" command should be
net start watchDirectory:taskname
Happened again last night but only found out this morning.  Cost us too.  I do have the task with a ':' in the batch file, but I'll test it better this afternoon.  Would be useful to be able to call another Task in the case of one failing, or to fail over to a 2nd ftp server if one stops responding.  Ncftpput returns an exit code that I use in a vb script in other places.  A '0' means failure.
