Title: Service fails if FTP plugin fails
Post by Kerry on Feb 1st, 2008 at 5:19pm
I'm using WD to watch a directory that has a new file appear at random times. The FTP plugin then FTPs this file to a remote computer. The Internet connection is not stable, and the connection is sometime down. If the FTP plugin trys to send a file while the connection is down, the WD service fails. And, even worse, when the service is restarted and the connection is up the FTP client does not try to send the file that failed, but just starts with with the next file that appears in the directory.
Any way I can get the FTP service to keep try to send files that failed to transfer?

Hello Kerry,

If you check the option "fire FILENEW/DIRNEW at startup" on the "other settings page" ( http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage6.html ), watchDirectory will try to upload these files again.

Also, on the normal "Windows Services" applet (on your Windows control panel) you can tell windows what to do when a service stops. For example, restart it. If your task is called HELLO, look for the windows service called "watchDirectory:HELLO").

Hope this helps,
Gert

Gert - Thank you very much for the fast reply! I will try the FileNew/DirNew setting. I had the 'check for missed events' checked instead.
I've got the service set to auto-restart, so that part is working fine.
Would it be possible for you to modify the plugin so an FTP connection fail didn't cause the service to fail?

Gert,
I am having a problem using the FTP plugin with the "fire FILENEW/DIRNEW at startup" setting. Now if the service fails for some reason, the FTP plugin re-sends all of the files it had already sent, as well as the one file that failed.

Kerry,

Yes, that is correct. I was assuming that you used the option of the FTP plugin to remove (or move) files after they are uploaded.

Thank you, I will give the 'move' option a try.
