Title: Multiple ZIP files generation
Post by hbreuer on Dec 29th, 2008 at 11:42am
Dear Gert,

I am creating a kind of centralized application which creates a history of messages. This works for a lot of different locations.
The way it is being used is to create a .txt file of each message and save it to its corresponding folder, which will contain station, year, month and date as subfolders. Example: \\History\AMS\2008\JUN08\21JUN\File1.txt, and so on.

I would like to create an automatic task which, for instance every day at 0300, creates a ZIP file for each station (in the example, AMS level), which contains all the subfolders and files, keeping the route. And after all the ZIP files have been created, they should be emailed, each one to its correct destination. If that works, then the original .txt files can be deleted.

Is this possible? I cannot figure out how to create more than one ZIP file with one single rule... Can this be build with the subtask plug-in?

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Hans

Hello Hans,

Currently the zip task does not zip the sub-folders, perhaps that is a good idea for a next version.
On the other hand, if you have a commandline ZIP program (like rar.exe from http://www.rarlabs.com/ ), it should be easy enough to create a bat file to zip these directories. I don't think you would need to use WD for that - just schedule the batch script with Windows Scheduler.
