Title: network change notification
Post by uyuni on Nov 19th, 2010 at 2:19pm
When do I get a notification from the network that a file has changed? At the moment I do not get a notification from my server. Is it possible to configure this so that I will get a notification which enables me to use "Default" or "Fast" monitoring method?

Hello Emilio,

To use the Default or Fast methods, the directory needs to be on a Windows server computer, generally speaking. There are other operating systems (and NAS's) that implement the required notifications with varying degrees of reliability.

Also, if you run the WatchDirectory task as a Windows Service, you need to properly setup the Service (userid/password), see

The watched directory is on a windows server.
WatchDirectory is installed on another PC in the network as a service and I changed the user for the service.
I can use WatchDirectory for directories on the server but only in polling mode. Is it possible to change a Windows configuration variable so I can receive change notifications from the server?

Did you read the blogpost? Please do so.

Does it work when you run the task "manually" (not as a service)?

Make sure to monitor using UNC naming (\\server\share\dir) and not mounted drives (X:).

Sorry, you were right.
I didn't change the user of the service. Now I've done that and it's working fine.
Thank you!
