Title: Monitoring Directory thats not always online
Post by Rad_Rick on Jul 6th, 2015 at 8:03pm
Im trying to monitor a network location that comes and goes on the network.

Essentially we are trying to monitor a specific ip address for a share, that when found, takes all .jpeg files and moves them to a network location.

With the share accessible, WD does not see the files and move them, now if I paste in a new file it will move them. But thats not what im trying to accomplish.

I need WD to poll the target location, when it becomes accessible, it will take all jpegs (without creating a new file) and move them to a directory.

Almost like a /MIR function for xcopy. Is this possible

The directory being monitored is actually off an hp printer where you can plug a sd card in.

Currently, this is not possible (the monitored directory MUST be available). It is an interesting idea, we will look into it for a future release.
If your scenario was a bit different, the directory was available during set periods of time during the day, you could start/stop the task automatically using Windows Task Scheduler.

Hey Gert,

I actually solved the problem yesterday by tinkering with the polling method. 8-)

I set it to monitor the share path \\192.168.X.X\Memory_Card\DCIM_XXXX\

Its a compression style job (Thumbnail), using the "File Age" monitoring method with a trigger of files older than 1 minute,  creation date, and poll directory every 1 minute. Also I could not get the windows Service part working, even with modifying the service for a local or domain user. I ended up getting it to work with "From the Startup menu of the Current User". Bummer.

When the location is not there it is in an error state, as soon as mount the card, and let the 1 minute interval run, it finds the location and performs the compression job / move operation to another folder on the SD card.

Its not pretty but it seems to work!

1 more question though.. Like I stated before, WD is compressing the files to another target folder on the SD card.
There is then another job MOVING/Cutting the newly compressed files out of the target folder on to a NAS device.

There is no MOVE option in the compression job, which would be great because this is my last problem. All the functionality is there except after everything is moved and compressed I need to delete all pictures from the original DCIM folder.

Any ideas? Thanks Gert!

What you could do is create a new task using the "subtask" plugin - http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/plugins/wdopMultiPlugin.html
Set it to run all subtasks.
Use "create subtask based on" to "import" your current task as subtask-1. Then create a new subtask using the "delete files" plugin.

Sorry for the late reply, I missed your question.
