watchDirectory Bat-Builder
Jun 12th, 2003 at 4:51am

I was thinking about a kind of wizard to build bat-files.
Before we go loose on this... would there be any interest for it?

We are now busy with the beta for version 3, should be released in the next 2 or 3 weeks (free upgrade for customers, btw).

Sad to say, this .bat builder didn't make it for v3.  We are aware a lot of (potential) customers have difficulty applying the needed changes to the sample .bat files... So this .bat-builder-thingy will be implemented in a (near?) future release.

I agree the bat builder would be great.

I was thinking about the issue with changing the settings in the sample bats,

As an example in this piece of code

SET TARGETDIR=C:\TARGET

Why don't you set the TARGETDIR variable in the GUI.  There are many ways to do this so the variable is global.  You could have targetdir1, targetdir2 etc when there are multiple watchdirectory instances.

Lastly would you consider a version of Watchdirectory that makes use of JPSofts 4NT/Takecommand?

I know you have written GPDutil and it does so many things already but 4NT has so many capabilities that it seems like a natural bundle.  Both companies can offer the bundle.

Just a thought.

I believe 4NT scripts have a .BTM extension?
You can use them now by calling the .BTM file from within your .bat file.

I have some ideas how to do this. In a future release the sample .bat files will be replaced by "templates". When you select such a template with the GUI, it will be parsed and you will be presented with a wizard that helps you 'fill in the blanks'.

(whisper)At the moment I am working on extending watchDirectory with 'plugins'. These will be auto-loaded by the GUI so you can configure them. The 'real' watchDirectory program also dynamically loads those plugins and calls them instead of .bat files. As these plugins are written in native code (read: real executable), they should be a lot faster than plain old .bat files.(/whisper)

Thanks for your input!
