print to a network printer
Dec 23rd, 2004 at 4:51pm

Hi,

I would like to print out tif-files to a network-printer. The printer is attached direkt to the network and can  direct print out tif-files without need of an application.(its a Xerox 8825 wide format printer).
In a dos-box I use "lpr -S 192.168.1.195 -P raw -d  c:\filename.tif" and it works. Using "lpr -S 192.168.1.195 -P raw %WD_FILE%" inside WD nothing happens.
Why?

Hello Dirk,

first, you should always surround the %WD_FILE% with "quotes". If the new file has embedded spaces in its name, the command (lpr in your case) will get confused.

So, it should be
Code:
lpr -S 192.168.1.195 -P raw "%WD_FILE%"

To find out why your command failed, please have a look at the topic here:

that shows you how you can debug this kind of problems.

Ah!
It is often the simple things.
I really wish Microsoft didn't allow spaces in filenames, they always cause trouble.
