Exclude Directories request
Aug 8th, 2005 at 7:29am

Hi all,
We have a situation where currently, sub directories are in a standard format, but the State and User list change constantly.
eg.
C:\<State>\PRM\<user>\Data
C:\<State>\PRM\<user>\Log
C:\<State>\PRM\<user>\Archive

(where <state> like VIC or NSW, and <user> like dakers)

We only wish to monitor the Data directory, but the user directory is updated every time a new user is created.
Under the current model, I need to alter the setting in Watch directory every time a new user is created to exclude the Log and Archive directories.
What I would like to see implemented is wildcard exclusions...

Eg.
Exclude the following directories:
C:\*\PRM\*\Log
C:\*\PRM\*\Archive

That way, no matter what the State is, and no matter what the user name, neither the Log or the Archive directory are monitored, and my maintenance is greatly reduced.

Please let me know what you think!
(PS. the new release is great!)

This is already possible...
You should not use the "directories to ignore" tab, but the "files that trigger events".

Use the "are processed" options, and enter the filemask:
*\prm\*\data\*

That should do it.

Thanks!

Hi,

Before I start with my request, I'd just like to say what a cool product you have created here. I spent several days looking for a utility to do what I wanted and all of them fell short until I found watchDirectory!

So my (minor) problem is similar to the one in this thread. I have a directory structure like this:

\\server\subdir\anothersubdir
\\server\subdir\00\Archives
\\server\subdir\00\AnotherArchive
\\server\subdir\01\Archives
\\server\subdir\01\AnotherArchive
\\server\subdir\02\...
etc.

I want only to copy *.dwg files from the 00/01/02 folders and not any other folders at this level or the Archives subfolders at the lower level.

I created a filter that only processes the following format mask: *\??\*.dwg

I thought this would work but the second asterisk allows files in the Archives to get through, eg. \\server\sub\00\Archives\123.dwg

I could use a sequence of filters like *\??\???.dwg,*\??\????.dwg,*\??\?????.dwg,etc. to pick up files with 3-5 characters in length.

However, it would be quite nice to be able to exclude some filters as well as include some.

For example, for each filtermask you could specify if it is inclusive or exclusive rather than all or nothing:

*\??\*.dwg (include)
*\??\*\* (exclude)

Keep up the good work,
Alastair
