Batch; and as much else in a ramdisk
Aug 18th, 2005 at 3:56am

I'm running a rather complicated batch file now, and I've installed a 32 meg ram disk.
I'm putting all the batch aps that i can into the ramdisk, but I am wondering if there is any watchdir paths, other than the one in the .INI file, that i may relocate to there.

I don't think there is another path used by watchDirectory, except for the "task directory" found inside watchDirectory.ini.
Do you see a big performance improvement by using a ramdisk? Also, once your script is working the way it should, you can disable most writes to the history databases on the "other" tab (http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage6.html), that could speed things up a bit more.

I'ts sped up this process dramatically.

I use an 'if exists' file and a rename sequence used as a counter, having the counter file in memory has made things much faster on this not so fast system.

The watchdir work directories are in ram, and the image processing aps as well, since 95% of what is called is those.

I have a duplicate scanner with a data base that is running from there now as well.

what it isnt doing is launching from ram.

The Batch itself is in ram, and the INI config is pointed to ram, but the launch bat is still is c:/documents/all users.

How do i change that? is there a registry line?

The file "wd.bat" inside the directory named as the task-name you selected will have the path to your real .bat file.

its running the correct bat file, but the bat launcher itself is running from the system drive.

I am not sure what you mean with "bat launcher".

The small batch file that checks for the existance of the batch to be run, then runs it.

That hasnt changed, though the INI in both places, the system drive and the one on the ram drive are both pathed to ram.

the .bat file plugin will always run the wd.bat found inside your task directory. The location of the task-directory is found by reading watchDirectory.ini inside the same directory where wdcc.exe and wdrun.exe are.

Changes to watchDirectory.ini only effects tasks started after the change.
