Web page call
Nov 30th, 2005 at 3:35pm

Do you think it would be possible to have a plugin that calls a web page with the OS default browser and any subsiquent calls are made to that browser so there is no more than one open at any one time?

This would be massively useful to me as I need to call a webpage to register the existance of a file in a new system.

Hi Kevin, I just replied to your email message about using a .bat script to do this. Our webhost is experiencing some troubles, so I am not sure if you received my answer.
Anyway, this was your (email) question:
Quote:
Is it possible to call a webpage using WatchDirectory.  I
have a batch file that calls iexplore.exe and a webpage.  It
won't allow me to call it again until I close down the
original IE window.

and my answer to that was
Quote:
Hello Kevin,

If I understand you correctly, you have "starting iexplore" working?
Inside the same directory where you have installed watchDirectory, there is a program called GdPutil,
see http://www.watchdirectory.net/watchDir/GdPUtil.html

One of the options of GdPutil is to run another program, and "kill it" after x seconds, usage inside your .bat file would be like

GdPUtil -runkill 10 iexplore.exe mypage.html

gdputil will stop iexplore after 10 seconds.

A plugin to do this might be interesting, perhaps a plugin that can call any executable?

The ability to call webpages in the background would be hugely useful to me as well.

One application that would be great off the top of my head is:
When a .bat file is finished processing, I would like to call a webpage that POSTs %WD_FILE_N% to notify that it has been processed.

I can think of a lot more apps where a funciton like this would be a huge help, but they all work on the same premise.

Many Thanks,

James

I have absolutely no experience with this, but maybe you can use WebCon inside a script that is started by watchDirectory.
