Grouping Watchdirectory Tasks
Feb 22nd, 2006 at 6:22am

I am starting to have a lot of different tasks. It can be tricky keeping track of groups of tasks with similar function. The workaround I am thinking of is to rename groups of tasks with a common beginning character (such as a numeral or punctuation mark). Unfortunately, the only way to rename is to copy, click through, rename and delete the old file. This is cumbersome. I like how SyncbackSE lets you create a group and add tasks to it. Then you can collapse or expand groups similar to the folder view in Windows Explorer.

Another thing I would like is the ability to send an automatic email for a deleted directory but not for each file in the directory. I had the problem of deleting a few folders with a lot of files in them and my boss got 1500+ emails. OOPS!

I have the "rename" code almost done, expect a new version of the Control Center on the "Beta Forum" by tomorrow.
If I may ask, how many tasks do you have? Would it help to assign a category to each task, so you can start/stop/show all task sharing the same category-name?

mmm, if you configure the email plugin to send email for deleted files, you should not complain if it does....
just don't select "FILEDEL" on http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage4.html

am I missing something?

Hi Gert! That sounds like a great feature but it is more than I was thinking of. I was just thinking of being able to show all tasks of the same category name (but then work with them individaully). I believe you can shift/click to select a contiguous group for start/stop right? I currently have 18 tasks that I would group in 4 different categories. by next week I will add 5 more.

I was just hoping there were a way to be notified when a folder is deleted without getting an individual email for each file inside it. -It would be much nicer to get one email with 1000 entries in it than 1000 emails!

Thanks Gert!!!

That is correct. You can also Ctrl+click to select non-contiguous tasks.

Renaming is implemented. See this topic in the beta forum.

I will probably look into the "categories" in the next few weeks.
