Panic - Monitor Size of Folders, Beta 5
Oct 15th, 2006 at 1:58am

I am using Beta 5 of WD.

I created a new task to monitor the number of .png files in a directory.

Options:

When, inside the monitored folder. . . there are more than 15 files. . . move or remove files: Delete or move files from the monitored directory: matching these patterns *.png oldest file first
with mark in: Instead of deleting, move the files to: S:\New\T2-{yearonly:cr}{month}{day}

Where are my files?  It says it DELETED 18 files (see the XML attached)!  They are not in my recycle bin!  Where did they go!

Perhaps I was idiotic to assume that the files would go to the recycle bin.  But they are not there.

There was no option to make deleted files go to recycle bin, and now my files are completely gone (confirmed with Windows search).

The file that appears in the above-referenced directory is a standard un-suffixed file called "T2-061014" which was created 10/13/2006 8:00 PM (it was truly created at 10/14/2006 at 4:21 PM as that was the time the task took place).  The file is nearly 3MB in size but I don't know what it is or how to access it.  I do know that the 18 .png files that were wholly deleted took up about 16MB of space or more.

I am now scared to death to use this software as a whole week's worth of work is now GONE.  No directories were created as indicated. I guess I should have known better than to use a beta to work with my production files.

Hello Melissa,

I am very sorry to hear you have lost some files. One of them can probably be found again (see below).

Quote:
...move the files to: S:\New\T2-{yearonly:cr}{month}{day}

The name you enter as the target for the move should be a filename, not a directory-name. Your 18 files are all moved to the file S:\New\T2-061014, each move overwriting the previous move. If you rename the file T2-061014 to T2-061014.png, you will see it is one of your missing files.

If you change the filename pattern to S:\New\T2-{yearonly:cr}{month}{day}\{filename}, the files are moved to a directory named S:\New\T2-061014, and keep their original name.

Quote:
...It says it DELETED 18 files

That is a confusing message, I agree. I have changed it to say "move or remove".

I have changed the folder-size plugin to warn about this problem (it checks if you use {filename} or {filetitle} in the pattern), and will upload the new version in a minute.

Again, I am very sorry you have lost some work.

Gert

Thanks for the ultra-fast response, I see the error now.  I'll set it up differently next time!!
