A few questions regarding E-Mail Plugin
Jan 17th, 2007 at 10:47am

Hello,

we installed the trial of the recent version 4.1.1 and setup the email plugin. We have a few questions.

1. We had to install it directly on the server as i found no way to enter a username / password. We installed the email service for this purpose. The emails showed an permission error. Did i something wrong?

2. The sent emails seems to have problems with german special characters. These are shown in the mail subject but no in mail body. Any workaround possible?

3. With this plugin we want to inform the user of changes happened on a specific share. Unfortuanely the change in the email displays the local folder name. (D:\Some Share\Folder\changed.file) This ($RS$: $FP$\$FN$) is the configured output. Is there any Way to chance to "String"\Subdirectory\change.file where i can put the share name visible for the user?
For example:
D:\Some Share <- Monitored Directory
D:\Some Share\Subdirectory\changed.file <- changed file
L:\Subdirectory\changed.file <- wanted output in mail body.

4. Can the $RS$ Variable output its string in german?

Regards

flizebogen

I am not sure what you are asking / doing.

I will look into this, probably need to set the proper encoding for the email.

3. With this plugin we want to inform the user of changes happened on a specific share.

You can also use all variables available here so for your example, you can use
Code:
L:\%WD_RELDIR%\%WD_FILE_N%

4. Can the $RS$ Variable output its string in german?

Press the "Additional variables" button on the email plugin window, and change the text as needed. The editor that opens shows lines like
Code:
FILENEW=New File
FILEDEL=Deleted File
FILEREN=Renamed File

If you translate "New File" into German, the $RS$ variable will contain that new text when a new file is detected.

Hope this helps,
Gert

Good to know for next time.

What i meant with Question 1 was:

For the directory you want to watch one can specify a mapped drive. The Program wants to corrects it the network share name. So far so good. But if the system service tries to connect to the share it has to specify username / password to gain access. Otherwise it will fail. And for me it failed. I got emails with countless entries that the configured directory was not accessable. In my case it's not the problem, as i installed watchdirectory now directly on the server. Now it accesses a local drive. But what i wanted to say is that in the config screen there is no way to enter authentification data.

The prompt to make it an UNC name (\\server\share) is optional, so as long as you are not running the task as a service (services do not see your mapped drives), you can ignore the prompt.
If you DO need/want to run as a service, you can change the userid/password for the service in the normal Windows services applet. The control center has a button to start the services applet, or choose the Tools menu, Windows services option. The service to change is called "watchDirectory:YourTaskName".

Hello Maddox,

This issue has (at last) been fixed in the new beta release. It will be posted on the beta forum in a few minutes.
