wdPostman not saving E-mail Settings
Jul 7th, 2008 at 1:14pm

Hello,

I'm having some trouble with wdPostman.

WatchDirectory was not able to send any e-mails, after inputting the e-mail settings processes would run but not mail out.  We are using an internal mail server, which does not require authentication.

To get around this problem I had to set the wdPostman service to run as a domain administrator.  Unfortunately we can't have the service run as a domain admin all the time, so the user account which will be running WD was set as a local administrator and the wdPostman service was set to run using the local admin logon.

Now that I've set up the user as an administrator WD seems to loose its e-mail settings as soon as they have been entered.  I've tried running the wdPostman service as the default user, the domain admin and the local admin and all have the same problem.  Attached is a screenshot of the wdPostman service running with the config window open.  This was set to run and the config window was opened after inputting all the settings.

Is this a problem with using a network mail server, and is there a workaround I could use?

Thanks,

Paul Goodchild

Hello Paul,

What probably has happened, because of all the "switching" between userids, is that the wdcc.exe program can not properly access/write the file with email settings.

If you select the menu option "Tools -> Explore Task Directory", a directory will be explored, normally something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\watchDirectory

Inside it, you will find a file called
emailsettings.ini

Right-click that file, select Properties, Security sub-window.

Make sure the "user" Everyone has Full Access, that should solve the problem.

Gert

Thanks Gert,

This seems to have solved the problem.
