Mapped Network Drive Support
Sep 11th, 2008 at 3:35pm

Hi there,

Im trying to setup watch directory for use with a Mounted Unix Filesystem on Windows 2003, so that I can monitor the unix filesystem and copy files from it to folder on the windows server which be shared out using NTFS Permissions.

I downloaded watch directory and installed it yesterday. As I can only mount the unix filesystem using a drive letter on Windows and I cannot use the UNC path, I cannot achieve what I am trying to do. When creating the task, a message is displayed that the drive (the Unix Filesystem - mounted using NFS or mapped network drive)  is a mapped network drive and I am prompted to change the drive letter to the unc path. Obviously this works ok for Shared windows folders, but this is not supported on Unix.

Does anyone now if Mapped network drives are supported on the fully registered/Pro version of Watch Directory.

any help appreciated.

Regards
Oliver

Hello Oliver,

When WD prompts you to use the UNC name, you can select "No" and it will use the mapped drive.
Note that you probably will not be able to run the task as a Windows Service, because these drives are not mapped when the service starts.

Gert,

Thanks for you response. Of course I should have realised to click "No" to the message when prompted about the network drive. I've created the Task now and left at is U:\ (the mounted NFS filesystem from Unix).

although the task appears to be running, nothing has been copied from the source to the target locations. I've tried a different number of options for the task, but the file that I created (on the unix filesystem - when logged into the Unix Server) has not been copied accross to the target location by watchdirectory.

Any ideas?

Regards
Oliver

Hi,

You have probably configured the task to use the "Default" or the "Fast" monitoring method. These 2 monitoring methods rely on Windows for notification.
Please try either the "Polling" or the "File Age" monitoring methods.

See http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage3.html for an overview of these monitoring methods.
