WatchDirectory not processing pdf's?
Apr 22nd, 2009 at 4:24pm
We are dumping pdf's into a subdirectory on a Win2003 machine.  I can verify that the pdf's are being put into the directory but periodically WatchDirectory is not processing them as verified by the event viewer in Win2003.  Is anyone familiar with this problem?  It is a serious issue as customers show up for work, some taking hours to do and the work order was never received in our production department.

Please HELP!

Hello Rick,

It seems you are not receiving my email answers?

The problem with the normal "print pdf" task is that printing is handled by Adobe.
WD just passes the file to print to Acrobat, and if acrobat says "thanks, I'll do that", WD assumes all is ok.

You may have better luck bypassing Acrobat and use the method I describe here:
After printing, you could check the return-code and move the PDF elsewhere. Something like:

  MOVE "%WD_FILE%" "C:\Processed"

Files that didnt print would be quite obvious as they remain in the folder - you can even send an email in that case ( ).

I am currently experimenting with ghostscript as an alternative as well.
