Syncpoint Error
May 8th, 2009 at 5:30pm

I have a task to copy files from a network share that holds all of our employees documents they use daily.  It will run for about 40 minutes or so and stop itself and it leaves an error SyncPoint - HEAP CORRUPT - -4 - BADNODE.  It is set to run as a domain admin so i know there isn't a permissions issue.  The share is quite large about 73GB i don't know if that is an issue or not.  I've tried changing the settings to wait for files to be available, don't wait for files to be available and even recreated the task and get the same results.  There aren't any errors on the server where the share is located and the only errors in the event log on the watchdirectory server are The watchDirectory:docscopy service terminated unexpectedly.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I am not 100% sure, but I think WD is running out of memory. What "monitoring method" have you selected ( http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage3.html )? Only the "fast" method is not impacted by the size of a directory. The "file age" method should perform well too.
The other 2 methods need to have a representation of the complete directory structure in memory.

See this blogpost for some more info:

Hi Gert,

I am using the fast monitoring method.  I've excluded some folders that don't really matter to us to see if this helps and started the task again.  I will watch and see if this helps.  Thank you for your advice!

UPDATE:

Same issue it ran for 35 minutes and stopped itself with the same error.  Just a thought but would temp files cause an issue with this?

I really think it is a memory issue.

Did you perhaps enable
Fire FILENEW/DIRNEW at startup (on the "other" settings window)

That option will first collect all filenames and directorynames (a bit like the default and polling method).
