CWD bug still exists in 4.5.9
Jul 31st, 2009 at 7:22pm

Good day...
The previously documented bug of an invalid CWD which the server returns 550 seems to still exist.  We are using v4.5.9 and wdopAutoFtp is v4.5.6.31.  On occasion, the CWD is issued with the filename it's trying to upload.  This results in receiving a 550 error from the server which causes the WD task to stop running.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Paul.

Hello Paul,

Sorry for this, we haven't looked into this issue much yet. The FTP servers we use for testing do not cause aborts of WD tasks when this CWD command is sent. It would be very helpful if you can create an account for us on your FTP server so we can test. Or, maybe you trust us enough to send us your login-details:

stop the task
right-click it
select "backup selected task" from the popup menu

send us the ZIP this will create. Please note: your userid/password will be (encrypted) in this zip. DO NOT POST THE ZIP ON THIS FORUM! Send it to gert at watchdirectory.net.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late follow up.  Since we are pushing to a client's FTP server, I cannot provide you access to the server.  I can however shed some light from the WatchDirectory logs, which show that once logged in to the server, the app attempts a CWD command of the filename it is about to put on the FTP server.

For example, if the file that triggered the upload was named "file001.xml", the app attempts a "CWD file001.xml" which results in the server replying with a 550 error which halts the WatchDirectory FTP task service.

Also I should explain how we are using WatchDirectory.  We provide a near real time feed of constantly updated sports data to our clients.  Updates occur often during the course of a tournament, thus the potential of this error is higher than just reacting to a file update that occurs once every hour.  We are receiving file updates every 1 to 2 seconds.

Please let me know if any other information is needed or how else I can help.

Thanks again, Paul.

Hello Paul,

I understand the issue, thanks. I hope to have a beta version of a new ftp plugin ready Sunday or Monday.

As far as I can see now, I think the new version will only fix this issue if the filename on the FTP server will be the same as the local filename. So if you use the option "upload with a .partial extension" or {dynamic naming}, this fix will not help. Is that acceptable?

Gert

Sounds great.  We do not use the .partial extension or dynamic naming feature.  The timing for the beta release is good since we have another sporting event beginning later next week.

Thanks again for all your help.

We ran into a strange issue, it looks like it will take more time to test fully. However, if you don't use the option "write FTP conversation to history", the new functionality (not CWD to the filename) is functioning ok, so far.

Forget that. The fix will also work in this case (when the file has another name on the server).

So, if you do not use the option "write FTP conversation to history", I can make a private beta available to you tomorrow (email me: gert at watchdirectory.net with a link to this post) so you can test it before your event.
