Can't Connect to WxListener Server
Apr 21st, 2011 at 9:37am

Hi there,

I am testing this product for my organisation. And i come up with a issue.

I have the following setup for testing:
Test computer: Windows XP with WxRemote installed on it and the WatchDirectory software. Its fully installed. I have started the WxListener.exe and the WxConnectionManager.exe and i can connect to them with my own computer but i cant connect to the Computer in the WxRemote Control Center. Which is installed on my own computer.
My own computer: Windows 7 SP1. WxRemote installed. Also a full install.

See the attachment for the issue.

I hope somebody can help me because we want to implement in our environment.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

I guess you are saying here you can access the computer with, for example, Windows Explorer?

I think the message is caused by WxConnectionManager that can not "talk" to WxListener. So WxListener is not running OR WxConnectionManager is misconfigured (wrong info for where to find WxListener). Another reason can be a firewall blocking ports.

It may help to enable logging for both WxListener and WxConnectionManager.

Hello Gert,

I can connect to the Localhost 1 now. But i cant see a task. I have created one task on the test computer.

What can be the problem here?

Thanks,
Kevin

Sounds like the configuration of WxListener is not "pointing" to the correct directory where WD has its task info stored.

When you start WxConfig, it is the 2nd option "Directory containing WatchDirectory config files". I just noticed WxConfig allows you to enter a non-existing directory.
Anyway, to find out which directory to enter here, start the "WatchDirectory Control Center" and select the menu "Tools -> Explore Task Directory". Windows Explorer will open inside the directory you should use in WxConfig.

Okay, do i have to change it on the Test computer or my own?

I want to look to the tasks from my own computer.

The path on the test PC is as follows: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\watchDirectory\
How do i configure this on my own computer?

This is on the computer where WxListener is running and WatchDirectory is installed. There you need to enter the correct directory in the settings for WxListener.

Computer 1:
WxListener + WatchDirectory

Computer 2:
WxConnectionManager - configured to connect to Computer-1's WxListener

Computer 3:
WxRcc (the user interface) - configured to connect to Computer-2's WxConnectionManager

Obviously, above can be "combined". I believe you have WxListener and WxConnectionManager running on the same computer. That should work fine.
