Doesn't retry
Aug 7th, 2011 at 3:37pm

I have 1 event that monitors a directory for changed files.  Every few days it will simply give up with the error:

[watchDirectory:vmxFiles] ERROR Plugin returned errorcode -1. Erro...
Plugin returned errorcode -1. Error message=40425: Can't open data connection. watchDirectory will abort
Date/Time: 8/7/2011 7:06:34 AM
Computer: LCIVIRTWEB

Retries are set to 25 times with 30 second delay in between attempts.  Since the file just before this attempt was uploaded at 7:05, there is NO way it did 25 attempts to reconnect.  This problem has existed for as long as I've been using Watchditrectory, and I've reported it in the past.  It appears very similar to the problem reported by aaronbiab reported on Mar 15, 2011, so I'm not the only one with this issue.

Watchdirectory is running on a virtual server monitoring a directory on the host, so connectivity should not be a problem.

Hello Rick,

I am currently working on the next beta of WD, I will have a look at the retry-logic implemented in the FTP upload task.

Is there ANY update on this issue? I continue to get these errors. The program is set to monitor 1 directory and FTP changed files to our web site. It dies at least once a week, usually more often. When it dies, the task stops and has to be manually restarted. We purchased this so the FTP task could run unattended, but if we have to check every time we change a file, we might as well just send the file.

Please either add a setting for retries that works, or just don't terminate the task because it couldn't connect (note that any manual FTP operation works flawlessly so this isn't a connection issue).

Could not upload file, will reconnect and retry

Hello Rick,

I agree the way it works now is not optimal in some cases. However, shutting down the task does help to detect issues with the connection. If WD would keep running (and not able to upload) it may give the wrong impression everything is OK.

Next week we will likely have 1 more beta release for 4.6.7, I will see if I can improve on this (retry to connect) in more cases.

Rick,

The new beta ( http://www.watchdirectory.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1312278065/0#2 ) should retry on 40425 connection errors.

So far, it seems to be working much better. I do get some messages about connection problems, but it now looks like it works on a retry. Thanks!
