Monitor local file/folder for availability
Sep 12th, 2011 at 2:51am

Hi Gert

I'm trying to work out a way to do something I thought would be simple...

I would like to monitor a particular file/folder on a USB hard drive and if that file/folder becomes unavailable (due to the drive going into sleep mode or otherwise faulting) I would like to receive an email alerting me of this.

The file/folder won't be changed/edited - it will simply exist to be checked periodically and if it becomes unavailable for any reason it means the plugged in USB drive has a problem and we need to fix it.

How can I accomplish this using watchDirectory?

Many thanks

Wes

Perhaps you can use this technique: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/65994

Create a task using "run a bat file", let it monitor another local drive (C:\), no subdirectories. Only enable the QUIET event, for example every 10 minutes (do not select "only 1 QUIET event").

The script should do something like
IF EXIST G:\NUL GOTO :EOF
... here your email code ...
Not sure if it will work, you need to try yourself.
