WD Stops Copying Files
Jun 13th, 2013 at 9:03pm

Hi,
Watch Directory Pro will stop copying files after a couple of hours.  If I reboot the computer it starts working again but stops again in a couple hours.  I have some tasks set to Copy Files and some tasks set to Sort Files to Multiple Folders.  I've tried changing it between mapped network drives and UNC paths with same results. If I configure it to Run As A Service the task will stop after a couple of hours (task turns red).  If I change it to run from Startup Menu of all Users, the task continues to run (stays green) but will stop copying files after a couple of hours.   I have Debug Enabled turned on but am not seeing any errors.  I've talked to other people that are using Watch Directory on our same network domain and they are having the same issue.
Please help with any ideas you have.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

can you please let me know what exact is the "couple of hours" when it happens? It is 2 hours, 5, 10, 15?
Is there any time difference between your Domain Controllers and the system WatchDirectory is installed/copying to?

Don't know exactly how long before it stops working but my best guess is it runs about 3 to 5 hours and stops.
This Domain crosses multiple time zones and copies files betweeen different Domains.  I'm not an IT manager but my understanding is that the clock with in the servers are each on their local time but the domain controllers talk to each other using the same time.

For me it sounds like an authentification problem, like a kerberos ticket time out.
In the moment it happens, can you access the target server with Windows Explorer?
Can you please send us the task backup (when debug was on) to the address below?
Can you please switch on Kerberos logging (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262177/en) and check windows event log after it happend again?
Can you set up a test task which copies files locally to the same server and see if the same problem occurs?

We have never heard about such an issue from other customers, also in our test lab where tasks are running for a long time we never have seen this.

I have a drive mapped to the same path that WD looks at and am able to copy files manually using Windows Explorer without any problems, even when WD can't.  WD works fine when copying files locally.
The computer WD is running on uses Windows 7Pro OS.  According to the Microsoft link, Kerberos logging is not available with that OS. I can work on installing WD on a server computer and try to get some logs that way.

I'll email you the task backup for you to look at.
Regards,
Steve
