WDCC is already running
Jan 6th, 2014 at 5:54pm

Not sure if this is a bug or not. We are running version 4.6.6 on Windows 2003 server.

A couple of times now in the past few weeks the Watch Directory Control Center interface will just disappear. Nothing on the taskbar to select.  I can see wdcc.exe running in task manager and all of our wd tasks are running as well.

If we try to launch WDCC again we just get an error that another copy is already running.

The only way we have been able to get the Graphical Interface to come back up is to reboot our server.  That isn't always possible depending on the time of day.

Do you have any idea on how we can get the Graphical Interface to come back up without rebooting our server or affecting any of the running tasks?

I have not seen that before.

Can't you kill the wdcc.exe process through the Windows task manager?

I am sure I could but I do not know what that will do to the 100 tasks I have running on that server.  I only have remote desktop access to the server.  If you can assure me that all my tasks will stay running when I taskkill wdcc.exe and relaunch it, I will attempt it.  Otherwise I will have a mess on my hands and will have to call my Network Admin to reboot the server real quick as I don't have physical access to it and we always have someone physically at the server when we reboot to make sure all our applications come up.  The server admin has a checklist of things he has to make sure is running when he patches and reboots servers.

First of all........
100 tasks is wayyyyy too many. Please try to reduce the number of tasks. This post has some tips: http://blog-en.gdpsoftware.com/2009/05/how-many-tasks-does-watchdirectory.html

The wdcc.exe process is completely separate from the tasks (wdrun.exe) so it is safe to kill it.

Never been a problem.  We have another server that runs 186 tasks just fine.

All our tasks monitor empty directories.  They all work as drop folders.  A file gets dropped, it gets backed up to another folder and FTP to the client.  So most of our tasks are already multitasks.  They are usually doing an FTP, sending an email and Zipping the file to a backup directory.
