FTP Disconnection Issue with plugin Upload Files
Apr 14th, 2014 at 5:40pm

Hello,

We currently use Watchdirectory (last version) and Upload plugin in order to deliver huge video files to one of our broadcasting partner. Most of the time, the upload goes well but oftenly, upload fails then try to reconnect and the upload is resuming normaly till the end of the upload.
We use a dedicated line to upload those contents to our partner so traffic shouldn't be the cause of the disconnection. We'll try to solve this issue with our partner for many weeks now but without any success ! Nothing in particular are present in the logs files.
Do you have any suggestions ?  Lips Sealed

Hello Simon,

Make sure to enable "Debug" and "Write FTP conversation to task history", that should help to find out what is happening. When you see the error again, you can email me a backup of the task and I will have a look.

Hello Gert,

I've enabled the debug mode on one of our upload process.
And this afternoon we had an error but as I previously said, I don't think it's a plugin issue, I think the issue comes from elsewhere but I don't know where...
I couldn't send you all the database as it's a 535MB file but I've extracted a text file on which you could see the issue ; during the upload, the process is suddenly stopped and disconnected from the remote server - the time stamp of the error is 15h26m01s. Then, the plugin reconnects and the upload is well processed until the end.
Just tell me if you need everything else !
Many thanks for your help !
Simon

One idea.....

What is your setting for "keep alive"? If it is "on" or "automatic", WD sends NOOP (NO OPeration) commands to keep the connection open. Those commands should be ignored by the FTP server, but some servers get confused if they receive the NOOP in the middle of an upload.

Try to turn this option "off".

Hello Gert !

Thank you very much for your advice !
Effectively, the Keep Alive function was set to Automatic, I've just made the modification and set it to NO. I'm now waiting to see if the error will disappear !
By the way, just a subsidiary question : what is the purpose of the Clear Command Channel tick box ? Because I try to found the explanation on the help file but I've not found it   Huh
Of course, I will let you know the result as soon as I ll saw anything !
Thank you very much for your help, It's much appreciated  Smiley

Hello Gert,

Unfortunately, the modification made was unsuccessful as issues still arise. We're still investigate about this problem.

Anyway, thanks for all,
Simon
