Rename file move to another folder
May 12th, 2016 at 12:03am

Below is goal, then the Task I used unsuccessfully.
Goal:  Adding file.txt to c:\folder1, if file.txt already exists, file should be renamed file.anything (doesn't matter) then moved to c:\folder2
Task:  Copy Files-Dynamic naming-remove after copy -used default monitoring (rename file is new), then file new as trigger.
Result:  Both file.txt & file.anything were moved to c:\folder2.  Any suggestions very helpful.  Thank you in advance.

I am not sure I completely understand....

You have a task that moves files from Folder1 to Folder2 but you do not want "some of the files" to be moved?

I think that's correct.
Folder1 should always have the current revision of the file, the existing file should be renamed and moved to Folder2.  E.G. File1.txt exists in Folder1, if a revised copy of File1.txt saves to Folder1, existing File1.txt should be renamed, then move to Folder2.  If more information is needed, I can provide screen shots.

Problem Solved!
I must have configured something wrong before original post,
Task:  Copy Files, Dynamic naming, remove after copy, this time checked the box "implement as MOVE", -used default monitoring (rename file is new), then file new as trigger.  Now it works as designed.  Thank you!!
Not sure if there is somewhere I should check this as solved.

Sorry, problem not solved.
The task works perfect if the file already exists in Folder1 (TestFile1.pdf is renamed and moved to Folder2), but newly created files should remain in Folder1 until a revisions is made.  I've attached a screenshot in hopes it helps you  understand.

What you basically want is....
New files: don't do anything
Changed files: create a timestamped copy of the file in Folder2

I think you just need to unselect the FILENEW option on "Events" for this to work.

Thinking about it more....
You just want backups of the files in Folder1 and those backups should be placed in Folder2....

That is an extremely easy setup but you are messing things up by "move" and/or "after copy delete".

Just let the task monitor Folder1 and let it COPY (not "move", not "delete after copy") to Folder2.

That way your most current version will always be present in Folder1. Older versions of the file will be in Folder2.

I've tried several options, but so far either all files get copied, or none.  I may be confused by your two replies.
Reply 1:
New files: don't do anything (uncheck the FILENEW box?)
Changed files: create a timestamped copy of the file in Folder2 (check the FILECNG box?, if I use File age (monitoring method) to create timestamp, FILECNHG  is grey, and FILENEW is checked)

Reply 2
Below is EXACTLY what I want to do, I unchecked "remove file & imp. move", but I must be missing something because that didn't fix the problem.  I feel I'm close, so any further advice appreciated.

You should have ignored the first reply.... so with the second reply make sure both FILENEW and FILECHNG are checked.

If that doesn't work:
- enable debug
- run the task until it fails to copy a file
- stop the task
- create a backup and email it to me (gert@... see my signature below)
Please also tell me the name of the file that didnt copy. Those steps are described here: http://blog-en.gdpsoftware.com/2010/06/send-task-backup-to-support.html
