Monitor directory on another server/ subnet
Jul 22nd, 2016 at 5:10pm

I am running Watchdir pro on a server, and using it for several things, including moving incoming FTP files to different folders for processing.  I have recently replaced the old physical file server with a virtual server, and everything that I transferred over is working properly, except for one specific task.
The process is to move files from an incoming FTP location on a shared folder on the admin network to a folder on our prepress network, which does not have a domain for security and is a different routed subnet.  File server can ping the target server; target can ping the file server.  File server can make a drive to the target server using alternate credentials (local account for the target server)   Task to monitor and copy/move files fails to run because access is denied to the remote target directory.  Is there a way to specify credentials to the target for the connection, or a way to use the "mapped" drive without having it convert to the unc path (\\target\share) to estore this operation. it worked properly for several years on the physical server, so I am at something of a loss to determine the issue here.

You can run the task watching a mapped drive with different credentials (just answer 'no' when asked to use UNC) and also copy to a mapped drive. But you need to keep in mind that windows services cannot see those mapped drives, so you will not be able to run this task as a windows service.

I think the tip on not running as a service fixed it, everything else was pretty well in place and it works properly in testing now.  Thanks for the information, it was the lst little bit I needed to get past te snag Smiley
