Transfer License key to new server
Sep 7th, 2016 at 5:23pm

We are migrating to a new server. When I entered the license key I get
You have too many copies of this program already running on your system or network

The program will not launch even in evaluation mode. How do I deactivate the key and transfer it to the new installation

Thanks

Hello Andrew,

Email me for a temporary license key you can use during the migration.

Hi Gert,

I have a similar but slightly different issue.

I originally had 2 licences installed on 2 servers. These licenses were registered using our old company name.

I planned to migrate these licenses to 2 new servers (while temporarily keeping the original installations running till I had fully tested and documented the new installations). This worked well for a month or so and I recently purchased 2 additional licenses registered under our new company name. However, when I uninstalled the existing WatchDirectory Control Centre on the new server and tried to re-install it using the new license key, WatchDirectory still retained the old license information (and old company name). I have tried uninstalling it using the Revo Uninstaller application in an attempt to comprehensively remove all references to WatchDirectory in the Registry and hard drive of the new server to no avail.

Please can you advise on how I can completely remove/replace the license key information from my WatchDirectory installation on the new server.

Hello Tony,

Enter the following command to overwrite a license name/key:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\WatchDirectory\wdrun.exe" REGISTER

Make sure all tasks and the WD Control Center are stopped before you do that.

Hello Gert,

Kind of a related question.
We are planning a migration of the server currently running WD tasks, as is, to a different, newer server.

I understand I won't be able to activate the new server until I deactivate the old server unless I get a temporary code from you.

What about the tasks running currently on my existing server. Is there any way to recreate them in bulk, or will I have to redo each one by one?

Since the function will be exactly the same and directory structure will be exactly the same as well, I'm hoping there is some way to extract the information.

Hi,

You only need a temp key if you need to run the old and new servers alongside for more than 30 days. Just use the evaluation version on the new server, it works exactly like the "Professional" edition.

Moving your tasks is explained here: http://blog-en.gdpsoftware.com/2008/08/move-your-watchdirectory-install-to.html
