Title: Duplicate Email Notifications Post by JohnAdam on Nov 16th, 2005 at 10:04pm
I recently purchased watchDirectory, and I find it extremely useful. One nagging issue...
I have set up a number of email notification tasks, and quite often, they send double notifications. By that I mean a task will literally send the same notification twice. The only difference between an initial message and its duplicate is the time stamp, (generated using the variable, $TM$). As you might expect, the second time will be a few seconds later than the first. I'm just wondering if you've ever seen this before, and if it could be something I've got set wrongly. Thanks. |

Hello John,
You are probably receiving notifications for "changed files". If the new or changed file is created slowly (that sounds stupid, hope you understand what I mean), watchDirectory might detect more than 1 change for the file. On the Other tab there is an option to delay starting tasks. If you enable it and set it to, for example, 10 seconds, watchDirectory will process only 1 change for the file during the delay period. That should fix it. Gert |

Thanks Gert. Oddly enough, I think I do understand. All the files in the monitored directory are PDF's written to the folder via Adobe InDesign's Export command. In the PDF Export settings I use, "View PDF After Export" is enabled, and at first I thought the file being written, opened, and closed might be the double-trigger. I experimented, and disabling the feature made no difference, but this was on the same track as your description of the file transaction happening "slowly."
I have set the delay at 15 seconds, and will let you know if it works. I appreciate your quick response and thanks for an excellent product. John |
