Title: Task randomly stops running
Post by HermW on May 10th, 2024 at 7:17pm
My organization is running WatchDirectory Control Center version 4.9.5.

What are some things that could cause a task to stop running?

My organization needs a certain folder watch and upload task to be running 24/7. At times, that task stops running and we have not noticed any pattern as to why the task will stop.

Note: WatchDirectory is not running as a service.

Also, is there a feature to send an email notification for errors/warnings ? I poked around the interface and did not see anything.

On the "Other" settings of your task you can enter an email address that will receive such notifications.

Did you look at the task history? Right-click the task and select "history" from the popup menu.

If you have trouble finding the reason:
- stop the task
- enable "debug"
- run the task until it stops (and you don't know why)
- before restarting the task, back it up and email me the backup
See this blog with more details about the above:

I looked at the current task settings and do not see an OTHER option.

Here is the relevant task history from today. Seems like a failed connection attempt. Can the task attempt to rerun itself instead of just stopping upon this failed connection?

Thank you, I found the OTHER tab and the email option.
It would be nice if the job could retry for itself, instead of just going down upon the failed connection and staying down.

Hi,

I missed your earlier message, sorry for that.

Make sure, on your FTP settings of your task, set the "Try to connect...." option to a proper value. That may help you out. See picture.

Thank you Gert.
Is there syntax to allow a failed task to email more than one person? E.g. separate multiple email addresses with semi-colon?

Correct - You can enter multiple addresses by separating them with a semicolon ;
