WD Errors
Oct 31st, 2005 at 1:07am

Gert,

We are getting a few of these crashes per week, just enough to be annoying.

Plugin returned errorcode -1. Error message=40550: Requested action not taken. File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access). watchDirectory will abort
Date/Time: 16/10/2005 1:21:02 PM
Computer: ~

What I think is happening,
We are using FTP to move files to a LAN at a remote location.
Users at the remote have access to the destination folder via windows file sharing

The file starts to copy using FTP, the user at the other end sees the file and attempts to open it, without checking to see if has finished copying.
WD will then crash, or think it has completed copying, then delete the original file. We are sometimes left with a file of zero size (0k) at the source or destination.

Hope the explanation helps, I tried to back up the service involved but it tells me that it could not open/create file.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim,

The "40550" errorcode refers to an error returned by the remote ftp-server, so it concerns the remote file. Most (all?) ftp servers do not lock the file they are receiving, so what you see happening is possible.
I see 2 or 3 possible solutions for this problem..

1. upload to a remote folder that is not shared, so the users do not see the file. Have another watchDirectory task run on the remote computer to move the finished file to its real target directory.

2. same as 1, but let your local watchDirectory task issue a raw ftp command upon completion that moves the file to the final location.

Thanks Gert,

I will try that and let you know.

Would you be able to explain this message?
We get this occassionally on the ftp processes.

Local file does not exist anymore - upload canceled
C:\sjared\projects\WD4\gdps\wdopAutoFtp\wdopAutoFtp.cpp

The local file doesn't exist anymore  Cheesy

You are probably confused by C:\sjared\projects\WD4\gdps\wdopAutoFtp\wdopAutoFtp.cpp... this is not the local file, but it is the location inside the plugin where the problem is detected. I'll make sure that a future version will add the actual local filename to the message instead.

Gert,

I downloaded and installed Version40038B yesterday, our errors have disappeared, not sure what you have fixed but it has done the trick.

Thanks again for excellent support.

Cheers
