makes computer crashing
Feb 20th, 2006 at 7:15am

Hi,
before reporting the bug, I just wanted to say that your tool is great. No idea why others don't use the same way to check for new files. It works perfect - when it works.
And it alwys does only for about 5 mins, after that time my whole computer crashes  Angry
It starts with some apps like smc.exe (from my firewall) and after the pc is completely slown down, I get a bluescreen.
Do you know an alternative to your software?
cheers, Antiker

Hi Antiker,

I can not tell from here what makes your computer crash. One thing that can cause trouble is if you have a task that *somehow* triggers itself again. For example, if you use the "start a .bat file" plugin and let it start for new files, the following .bat will crash your computer:
Code:
rem make a copy of this file to the monitored directory
COPY "%WD_FILE%" "%WD_DIR%\%WD_DTTM%.cpy"

This will create an "endless loop" of new files.

Less obvious causes could be if you let WD start a program that creates temporary files in the working directory.

Hi Gert,
nothing of this should apply to my case. What I've forgotten to say is, that before programs start to crash the internet connection is cut. Even the router-control doesn't work anymore. After restart (or total crash) everything works again.
I would really like to use this piece of software, as it is simply genial. I can't understand why others don't use the same way to handle the monitoring.
thanks for your help,
Antiker

I really have no idea what could cause this. Can you perhaps send me:

<task dir>\TASKNAME.config
and
<task dir>\TASKNAME\history.db

replace <task dir> by your task-directory (press Ctrl+9 inside the WD Control Center to open explorer inside your task-dir) and TASKNAME by the name of the task that causes these crashes.

What operating system are you running?
