Strange File Names created and printing halted.
Oct 1st, 2014 at 1:05pm

For some reason the file names are changed in the file being watched to gibberish, and WD will not pluck them out and move them to the next queue.

Are you saying WD is creating those files or are you saying WD is not picking up files with "strange names". Can you show a few of those filenames?

Actually both.  I think when our program drops the file in, there is a collision that causes the file to corrupt.  So that file is useless, and WD cannot use it.  I don't know which program is doing the corruption, Oracle or WD?

I don't think WD has any influence on the NAME of a file.

It should be easy enough to test: does the corruption happen when you stop the WD task?

That would be a great test, however we can't stop WD, our production relies on the labels that drop into that file.  There are labels running constantly, maybe every 10 seconds a file drops in.  It was a suggestion to me that it was a collision of WD with Oracle.  Do you have any other thoughts as to the cause?  Has anyone ever seen this behavior?

One thing you could try....

On the "Other" settings window - http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/help/wdnewconfigpage6.html - is an option that controls how WD checks if a file is "complete": "wait for files to be available" set that to "do not wait".

On the same page increase the value for "delay starting task" to something high enough so you can be sure a newly created file will be complete. If the files are not too big, I guess something like 10 seconds should be enough.

If you leave "wait for files" to "both methods" or "until it can be opened", that may conflict with the program that is creating the files. This can happen if that program uses a very strange method of writing to the file:
create file
close file (the file is now 0 size)
open file
write a few bytes
close file
open file
write a few bytes
close file
open file
write a few bytes
close file
open file
write a few bytes
close file

The files are HTML label files, so I can't think it would take too long to complete.  I looked at one of the files that had the name changed, I did not see anything in that file that should not work.  I will look at these settings and get back to you.  Thanks for your input.
