Irritated beyond reason
Mar 31st, 2015 at 3:57pm

Two things right up front:

1.) I just spent half an hour typing out my issue in response to a post on here titled "Error code 5" as I am getting that error. After spending all that time, and attaching the files, I clicked preview to review my post, and got a dumb message that a 'form spoof was detected', and it logged me out and kicked me off here. I lost all the work I just spent doing trying to ask for help. ARrrrrrrgh.

2.) The REAL problem is Error code 5. I am domain admin and I wanted to simply sort multiple files from my desktop into my shared folder on the network. Won't work, errors out with 'Access Denied' on the copy steps. I reviewed the folder/file security settings - no issues. I can manually copy/create things there no problem. So I moved the folder structure to my C:\ and repointed the task to reflect the new target locations. SAME THING! I reviewed the folder security on the local drive -- no issues. Didn't carry permissions from the network; I'm the local admin on my own machine - and yet, access denied! This is ridiculous. This occurs regardless of how I run the task as well (Service or immediate as user)

So now I'm RETYPING everything and reattaching the files from the runs to see if you can tell me what's going on. I created the task backup file AND the history dump IN THE TARGET FOLDER via WD's interface with no problem at all. Yet when the task runs, it is stated as access denied.

Hi, Sorry for that, it seems our webserver is having some issues.

I looked at the attached zip and see what the issue is.

for the individual steps you entered directory names like
C:\Files and Folders from Laptop\Documents\Docs

This really should be filenames, enter something like
C:\Files and Folders from Laptop\Documents\Docs\{filename}

The {filename} is automatically replaced by the original filename, see http://www.watchdirectory.net/wdhelp/plugins/dynamicname_functions.html

When you want to copy/sort to another computer and run the task as a windows service, make sure to read http://blog-en.gdpsoftware.com/2010/04/watchdirectory-tasks-as-windows-service.h...

Gert, you're a genius! That worked perfectly! Thank you so much.

On another note, I had written in to support for an issue with auto-naming/auto-zipping of files, and your advice worked there as well! The problem I ran into though was that it is going a bit too slow through the files. I have several gig worth of log files that need to be archived and stored. They had never really been managed before, but are now and monitoring their folders and zipping them up by day (which there are tons of them per day) is an excellent way to make those hands free. (MS Exchange logs)

So thank you for both situations, your advice paid off in spades!
