Start Service Failes: Error Code 3
Sep 14th, 2016 at 11:53am

Hello,

This morning windows  2008 r2 did an automatic update.  Now all of my Watch Directory services return an error code of 3,
The system cannot find the path specified.

When I try to start the service from Windows Services, same error.

Inside WatchDirectory, the tasks are still there, I tried modifying them to see if the file would be recreated and started but same error.

Strange...

Can you check if
C:\Program Files (x86)\WatchDirectory\wdrun.exe
exists?

Also....

Select the menu "Tools -> Explore task directory"
This opens explorer, typically in
C:\ProgramData\WatchDirectory

For every task (TaskName) you have there should be the following present:
TaskName.Config
TaskName subdirectory
TaskName\History.db

There may be other files but those must be present.

Hi Gert,

It appears windows did an automatic update last night.  When I looked into the Event Viewer - this is what I found with the services.  I ended up renaming the the service (in WD, right-click -> rename), and was able to restart the task without a problem.

Any thoughts?

Regards,
allan

Also - a week ago, when windows updated itself, ESET flagged wdrun.exe as infected with malware.  I did upload the supposed corrupt file to the website you posted in that thread, it came back clean.

I have no idea really. But you say...
Code:

so it works again, I guess.

We will have a look if it is something we need to fix or....
