Runtime Error Viewing WatchDirectory
Jan 7th, 2017 at 8:00pm

When viewing job logs for watch directory I receive "Runtime Error".  Running Server 2012 R2.

C:\Program Files (x86)\watchDirectory\WDQuickView.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Hi,

It looks like the history database got corrupted. Do the following, this assumes your task is called "HELLO":
* Make sure the HELLO task is stopped
* Select the menu "Tools -> Explore Task Directory", this opens Windows Explorer, typically inside C:\ProgramData\WatchDirectory
* In explorer open the subdirectory named HELLO (the name of your task)
* Inside that subdirectory delete all files that have "history" in their name (at least one)
* Unzip this empty history.db in the directory: www.watchdirectory.net/img/forum/history.zip

Does this not erase the previous history of events? At times the logs are important.

I have several other tasks, with the same error.

When viewing logs data shows up for a few seconds then the run time error pops up.

Deleting the history does allow WDQuickviewer to launch.

Yes you will loose the old history.

By the way, WDQuickView is a little sensitive to corrupt history. You can instead switch to the old history viewer: "View -> Options -> History" and disable "Use Quick History Viewer".

If the history database only has a slight corruption, the old viewer works.

Also, if you use the current WatchDirectory release and see a corrupt history... when you start the task with the corrupt history it will try to repair the database (keeping your old history). If repairing is not possible, it will replace the history as described in my previous post.

At times, compacting the database clears up the problem.
