Printed barcodes are not readable
Jun 27th, 2017 at 9:16am

Hello,

WatchDirectory PDF printing is doing something to mess up my barcodes, as they are not readable when printed via WatchDirectory's "Print PDF Files" task.

(I will need to post the screenshots in the next message)

In the screenshot I have two labels; the upper one is from a direct print from Adobe Reader, and the lower one is the exact same file printed with WatchDirectory with "No scaling" option selected. The labels are then placed onto each other that the differences are easier to see with the eye.

The direct printed version from Adobe Reader works great. The WatchDirectory print does not work at all; ie. a barcode scanner won't read the barcode.

Evident in the photograph is the different thicknesses of the bars as if the entire print job has been made with a lower precision/resolution.

Please advice. I really need to get this thing working.

Hi,

The PDF library we use for this seems to have some issues with barcodes. Depending on the format the barcode is either a "picture" inside the pdf (that works fine) or a "description" how to format the barcode (here lies the issue).

For the time being you can use our original "print pdf" task which calls Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader to print your pdf files with those barcodes.

When you create a new task, those Acrobat/Foxit tasks are on the "Other" tab of the New Task window, their names start with "[DO NOT USE]". I would try the Foxit version first as it is more reliable.

So what you're saying is that drawing the rectangles with the correct size is problematic.

I could modify our PDF generating software to use image barcodes in place of the rectangle soup we have now, and that should work better, yes?

I'll try this next.
