Run WxConnectionManager as a Windows Service
Aug 14th, 2018 at 5:48pm

I am trying to run WxConnectionManager as a Windows Service but for some reason it does not run.

I have tried doing the following:-

1.      Start the file WxCM_Install.bat once. This adds a program to the Windows Services applet.
2.      Run WxCM_Start.bat to start it.

The service does not seem to  start (should I be able to see it running in the Windows services list?).

However, I can run the command line version of WxConnectionManager

by:-

•      Double-clicking WxConnectionManager.exe.

When the above is running in a command window, I can remotely monitor all my tasks on all my servers via the WxRemote Control Center (wxrcc) application. However, if I try to run  WxConnectionManager as a service, WxRemote Control Center cannot connect.

So it seems that something is stopping the service from running.

Please advise.

Many thanks,

Tony

Hello Tony,

When you open the Windows Services applet, do you see
GdP Software WxConnectionManager Service
running?

On Task Manager its name would be
GdPSoftwareWxConnectionManager
while it is running.

If it is not present at all (on the Services applet), it was not properly installed using the WXCM_Install script. Make sure you run it as an Administrator.

The WXCM_Start script can (obviously) only can start it when it is installed as a service. If you run the script from a command prompt (with Admin privileges) you should see if it works properly.

Hi Gert,

Thank you for your prompt response.

When I checked the Windows Services applet, the status of the GdP Software WxConnectionManager Service was stuck at 'Stopping'.

The GdP Software WxConnectionManager Service process was also visible in Task Manager so I terminated it.

When I checked the Windows Services applet again, the status of the GdP Software WxConnectionManager Service was now blank'. I was then able to start the service via the Windows Services applet.

I can now connect OK remotely from my desktop PC.

The service must have previously got into a hung state somehow.

Thank you for your help.

Tony
