Recommended System Requirements for WatchDirectory
Dec 3rd, 2018 at 4:23pm

Hi Gert,

Do you have a document that details the recommended requirements for WatchDirectory (hardware and Windows OS)?

I need this vendor document as part of my qualification package of WatchDirectory at my company.

Please advise.

Many thanks,

Tony

Sorry, no official document.

We support running WatchDirectory on all Windows platforms supported by Microsoft. This includes client and server versions of Windows. Older Windows releases may work but are not supported (tested) by us.

Hardware/memory requirements are hard to tell, really. Much depends on the number of WD tasks running, the "size" of monitored directories, other programs running etc.
If your hardware has the "recommended" specs as stated by Microsoft for Windows version installed, it should be fine.

WatchDirectory is typically NOT bounded by CPU speed so running WD on a computer with "minimal" cpu specs should be no issue.
When running a lot of WatchDirectory tasks (whatever "a lot" may be), adding memory typically helps most.

Hi Gert,

I'm curious about your response, "size of folder WD is monitoring" ... I've noticed from time to time a WD service will not restart (I know there is a old forum post about this) ... Is the number of items in the folder a contributor to this issue?  We do have over 20 folders being monitored by individual WD services.  Essentially we move a processed file into a sub-folder of the watched folder, and the WD service is setup to not monitor sub-folders...
