WxRemote Help
Introduction
WxRemote is an add-on for watchDirectory and watchFTP installations. It allows you to start and stop tasks remotely, and to run batch scripts located on remote computers.
The picture below shows WxRemote's main screen. As you can see, it's similar to the main screens of both watchDirectory and watchFTP.
The package contains three parts:
- WxListener
This monitors the local installations of watchDirectory and watchFTP, and listens and responds to remote commands sent from WxRemote Control Center via WxConnectionManager.
Available as a command line program or as a Windows service, it must be installed on each computer that you want to remotely monitor. The host computer must already have an installation of WatchDirectory and/or WatchFTP installed.
Please see WxListener.
- WxConnectionManager
This manages the connection between the WxRemote Control Center and all the instances of WxListener on the monitored computers. Available as a command line program or as a Windows service, it can be installed on any computer with an available connection to WxListener and WxRemote Control Center installations.
Please see WxConnectionManager.
- WxRemote Control Center (WxRCC.exe)
This is the user interface, communicating with one WxConnectionManager. When you start it for the first time, it will ask for the computer and port where WxConnectionManager is running. You can change these parameters later or add more configurations in the Connect window.
The picture below schematically shows how those programs work together.
- The Red computers (1 or more) are the computers where WatchDirectory and/or WatchFTP run on. Those computers need a WxListener install if you want to manage them remotely.
- The Green computers (1 or more) are the computers where you want to use the Remote Control Center (perhaps at your help desk).
- The Blue computer (typically just one) is the computer managing all communication between 1 or more Remote Control Centers (Green) and 1 or more WxListeners (Red).
But there are alternative ways to install those programs. For example, you can run WxConnectionManager on the same computer as one of your WxListeners:
Getting Started
- Install and configure at least one WxListener
- Install and configure at least one WxConnectionManager
- Run WxRemoteControlCenter and set up connection parameters
