WxListener


This monitors the local installations of watchDirectory and watchFTP, and listens and responds to remote commands sent from WxRemote Control Center via WxConnectionManager.

Installation

Available as a command line program or as a Windows service, WxListener must be installed on each computer that you want to remotely monitor. The host computer must already have an installation of WatchDirectory and/or WatchFTP installed.

To install WxListener

  1. Run downloaded program installation.
  2. Choose "WxListener" from the list.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To edit WxListener configuration manually

  1. In the install directory (C:\Program Files\WxTools by default), locate and open the file WxListener.ini. You easily find it by choosing Explore Install Directory from the Windows Start menu program group.
  2. Edit the file to ensure that it points to the correct locations of the directories where WatchDirectory and WatchFTP store their settings.

    Locating the directories

    For WatchDirectory: In the Control Center, select Tools, Explore Task Directory.
    For WatchFTP: Make sure no WatchFTP task is selected, then, in the Control Center, select View, Task Directory.

  3. If WxListener is sharing a computer with WxConnectionManager, edit the .ini file to make them use different TCP ports.
  4. Make any other changes in the .ini file, e.g. the LogDirectory setting (enter something in the form "C:\WxTools\Logs").

Running WxListener

To run WxListener as a Windows Service

  1. Start the file WxL_Install.bat once. This adds a program to the Windows Services applet.
  2. Run WxL_Start.bat to start it.

NB: If uninstalling the Windows Service version of WxListener, be sure to "unregister" it from the Windows Services applet first: Run WxL_Stop.bat to stop it running, then WxL_Uninstall.bat to unregister the service.
